Mustangs send 2 to regionals

The Nixon-Smiley Mustangs will be sending at least two athletes to the Region IV-3A track meet this week with one Lady Mustang taking fifth in her event and two Mustangs taking first and second in an event.

Justice Torres won the 400-meter race, finishing at 51.00 seconds. Jake Torres took second right behind him, finishing at 51.21 seconds. Both will advance to the Region IV-3A track meet.

Meanwhile, Celeste Arriaga, Nixon-Smiley’s lone Lady Mustang competitor in the area meet, placed fifth in the 400-meter race, finishing at 1:04.95. Arriaga is an alternate.

The meet will take place at D.W. Rutledge Stadium in Converse from April 28-29. Qualifiers will reach the state meet at Mike A. Myers Stadium University in Austin from May 11-13.
