Nixon-Smiley ends season with loss

BLOOMINGTON — Coming in as the third seed, the Lady Mustangs were going to have a tough time taking on a district runner-up in the playoffs, despite tying for second themselves in District 27-3A.

Nonetheless Nixon-Smiley unfortunately went one and done, taken out by Industrial in a bi-district playoff game at Bloomington on Monday as they lost 62-34 in the effort.

Industrial came out to a 17-2 lead in the first and increased their lead in the second quarter with a 19-12 advantage to go up 36-14 at the half. The Lady Mustangs tried to keep pace, but Industrial again increased their lead with a 16-10 third quarter to go up 52-24. The Lady Mustangs finished the game with a 10-10 quarter, losing 62-34.

Celeste Arriaga led the team in scoring with 10 points, followed by Christy Perez with nine, Lilibet Torres with five, Lexi Trammell with four and Miranda Torres and Maggie Mendez with three each.

Nixon-Smiley ends their season third (due to tiebreakers) in District 27-3A with a 9-3 record.
