NIXON — Nixon-Smiley started District 27-3A strong with a 64-51 win over Luling on Friday. After outscoring the visiting Eagles 20-3, the Mustangs continued to add to their lead with an 18-16 second quarter and a 20-13 third quarter before conceding 19 points while scoring just six in the fourth for the 15-point win.
Treon Fatheree led the team in scoring with 24 points. Jose Melendez followed with 17. Other scorers include Jordan Van Auken with eight points and Jesus Vazquez, Colby Newman, Daniel Rodriguez and Rodrigo Acevedo with two each.
Nixon-Smiley moves to 8-9 overall, 1-0 in district. Luling falls to 0-1.
