Top athletes compete at TJHRA

GONZALES — Top junior high rodeo athletes from across the state traveled to Gonzales to take on the Texas Junior High Rodeo Association (TJHRA) state finals for an opportunity to travel to the national rodeo as a representative of the Texas team over in Tennessee from June 19-25.

But before even beginning to think about what to pack for that trip, two county cowgirls competed at the JB Wells Arena for a shot at nationals.

Gonzales’ Sadie Thibodeaux had a busy week as she took on barrel racing, girls’ breakaway, girls’ goat tying, pole bending and ribbon roping with cowboy Tres Reynolds III from Alice.

Thibodeaux was timed at 9.17 seconds and 12.570 seconds for goat tying, 17.742 and 29.213 in barrel racing, 21.152 and 21.004 in pole bending, 13.73 and 3.620 (good for 10th in the second go) in girls’ breakaway and no timed both ribbon roping go’s. She finished the rodeo placing 30th in girls’ breakaway, 31st in girls’ goat tying, 15th in pole bending and 140th in ribbon roping.

Kyla Stamps out of Harwood took on girls’ goat tying and team roping with Bastrop’s Thres Jarosek. She was timed at 15.39 seconds and 14.470 seconds. She to timed with Jarosek in team roping on both go’s. Stamps finished 83rd in girls’ goat tying and 119th in team roping.
