KARNES CITY — After coming off an impressive tournament win, the Gonzales Apaches followed up that performance with a loss to the Karnes City Badgers, 72-58.

The home Badgers started off with an easy layup and never relinquished the lead for the remainder of the game.

With Gonzales down 11-8 midway through the first, Karnes City would run off a 12-3 run to end the quarter up 25-11. Too many turnovers resulted in the 14-point deficit.

The deficit grew to 15 points by the end of the half, but the Apaches were able to turn things around in the fourth quarter, coming within nine points with the score at 65-56 with 1:45 left in the game. Unfortunately, Karnes City was able to close things out, running out to a 7-2 run to win the game 72-58.

The Gonzales Apaches are hosting a two-day tournament starting today with teams such as the Waelder Wildcats and Shiner St. Paul participating.
