A new traffic light in your future

AUSTIN – There is another traffic signal in Gonzales that will go into operation next week. Some motorists on US 183 and State Highway 97 may have noticed the signal but it was not turned on until Wednesday, Sept. 18.

The light will stay on “flash” until Tuesday, Sept. 24, when it will start cycling red, green and yellow.

The Texas Department of Transportation said the light is “in an effort to increase safety on Texas roads.”

Next week, TxDOT will place portable message signs out to remind motorists of the new signal. “Motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists should use caution and observe all traffic signals,” TxDOT said.

Highway Intelligent Traffic Solutions, Inc., of Lancaster is the contractor on the $92,733 project.

A new traffic signal will begin cycling Tuesday, Sept. 24, at US 183 and State Highway 97 south of Gonzales. Right now, the lights are flashing yellow for 183 and red for 97. That means stop.
