Sucher proclaims National Health Center Week in Gonzales

Community Health Centers of South Central Texas staff joined Gonzales Mayor Steve Sucher on July 31 as he officially proclaimed National Health Center Week from Aug. 4-10.

Every August, the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) sponsors National Health Center Week (NHCW) to celebrate and increase awareness of America’s 1,400 Community Health Centers (CHCs).

National Health Center Week is an opportunity to highlight the commitment and passion of Community Health Center staff, board members, and supporters who make it possible to provide quality, comprehensive healthcare services.

Community Health Centers are the backbone of our nation’s primary healthcare system. They design innovative, integrated primary care based on what services communities need most — ensuring access to affordable, quality healthcare for over 31.5 million people. In addition to creating jobs and saving lives, they save the U.S. healthcare system money by preventing and managing chronic diseases.

Health centers are not ordinary medical clinics; they are also problem-solvers that reach beyond the exam room to care for the whole person by providing access to necessities like food and housing. Health centers care for everyone, regardless of insurance status or ability to pay. During hurricanes, floods, fires, pandemics, and job loss, health centers are first on the scene and are vital to keeping America healthy.

Last year, Community Health Centers of South Central Texas proudly served 20,000 patients, providing comprehensive services that include medical, dental, and behavioral health services in the surrounding counties of Gonzales, Caldwell, Guadalupe, Bastrop, and Victoria.
