Surrounded by friends, family, former coaches and teammates at Terry Black’s BBQ in Lockhart, Gonzales athlete Bella Aguero made the commitment to play at the next level Sunday, Oct. 6.

Aguero signed her commitment letter to Earlham College in Indiana to play college basketball.

Aguero, a four-year starter for the Lady Apaches basketball and soccer teams, said she is looking forward to playing at the next level.

“It feels good, something I've dreamed of growing up, so it feels great,” Aguero said.

Other schools were looking at Aguero, but she choose Earlham in the end over those other schools.

“There were a couple other schools, but at the end of the day, I think the pitch that he gave me was great. I get 40 grand off the top because I'm a 4.0 student. And I think it fit me. You know, where home is, when you know, you know, that's what it felt like when I went on my visit.”

Aguero choose the basketball route versus soccer when picking the sport she wanted to play at college.

“I'm sticking with basketball because I’ve played it since I was eight, something I dedicated most of my time and money and stuff into. I could have had the opportunity to play soccer, but I just think basketball is just what I want to do,” Aguero said.

Aguero will be majoring in business management at Earlham College and she picked the major due to her leadership skills.

“I feel like I'm a natural leader. They’ve got a leading business program that would be something that would help me, and I think that's something I'd excel at,” Aguero said.

Aguero would like to thank her parents, Roberta and Gabriel, for getting her to this point of her life.

“They've sacrificed a lot to help get me to this point. Without them, I don't think I could have done it.” Aguero said.
