Sales tax allocations for all four Gonzales County cities were up this month — especially Waelder, which had its best month ever recorded, according to Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar’s office.

Hegar announced he sent cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts $977.2 million in local sales tax allocations for April, 12.8 percent more than in April 2022.

These allocations are based on sales made in February by businesses that report tax monthly.

For the month of April 2023, Gonzales County municipalities received a combined $294,020.72 in sales tax allocations, up $30,695.94 or nearly 11.66 percent more than the $263,324.78 received during April 2022.

For the year, county municipalities have received $1,244,152.89, an increase of $89,968.85 or almost 7.8 percent above the $1,154,184.04 received through the first four months of 2022.

Sales tax allocations for Gonzales, the largest city in the county which generates the lion’s share of sales tax revenue, were $244,368.29, up $12,681.28 or 5.47 percent above the $231,687.01 received during April 2022. It is the second-most the city has ever been allocated for the month of April behind only the $250,452.24 the city received in April 2015.

For the year, the city has received $1,051,582.82, up $46,360.56 or 4.61 percent, above the $1,005,222.26 received at this same point in 2022.

Waelder received a record total of $16,327,73, up an astounding 201.94 percent above the $5,407.47 received in April 2022. This is the best-ever total for sales tax allocations for any month in Waelder history — and more than $4,000 better than the $12,260.87 received for June 2019, the previous record.

For the year, Waelder has received $47,215.14, up $22,347.75, or 89.86 percent, above the $24,867.39 received at this point in 2022.
