Autry named new Gonzales Police Chief

The Gonzales City Council named a familiar face as the city’s new police chief at the Thursday, April 13 meeting.

The council came back from closed session regarding the open position at the Gonzales Police Department; they voted unanimously to remove the interim status from GPD Assistant Chief Gayle Autry’s title and name him the new GPD chief.

Autry replaces former police chief Tim Crow, who took the position of city manager in December 2022.

In other city council business, Mayor Steve Sucher signed two proclamations for the month of April; he named the month of April as National Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month and Fair Housing Month.

The council approved the appointments of five members for the new Gonzales Beautification and Design Board; two board members will get two year term, and three will get three year terms.

The council approved the following agenda items:

• approved an agreement with the Texas Youth Rodeo Association

• approved a second amendment to the 1835 Village Development Agreement with APT AvalonPark Texas, L.P.

• approved changes to the job descriptions and current position classifications for Fiscal Year 2022-23 for the following: swimming pool manager, JB Wells Parks Arena Operations Manager and Solid, Waste, Street, Water, Wastewater Departments.
