We’ve heard your questions and understand some frustrations surrounding the Gonzales Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture brick campaign initiated several years ago.
The bricks, purchased through generous donations from community members to honor loved ones or commemorate milestones, have remained a priority for the Gonzales Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture — and we want to assure you that meaningful progress is underway.
These custom bricks were produced and have been carefully stored. The funds collected for the campaign are secure in an interest-bearing account, reserved solely for this project. While delays have understandably caused concern, the current Chamber board and staff are committed to seeing the project through in a way that honors the original intent with dignity and purpose.
The Chamber’s Building Committee is actively working with the Texas Historical Commission and the City’s Main Street program to finalize an exterior redesign of the Chamber building that reflects the historic character of Texas Heroes Square.
This includes plans to install the commemorative bricks as part of a thoughtful and ADA-compliant upgrade to the building's façade. Several correspondences with the Texas Historical Commission have already taken place, and a site visit is being scheduled as the next step.
In the meantime, we’re proud to share that members of the Chamber board and executive director Melissa Taylor have completed an indoor display of the commemorative bricks, now viewable in the windows and continuing inside the Chamber office. This ensures that the heartfelt messages and the names inscribed on each brick are visible to visitors and the community while outdoor plans continue moving forward.
We appreciate your patience, your support and the trust you’ve placed in us through your contributions. We’re committed to providing updates on this project at least every other month in our Cannon Blast member newsletter and on our Facebook page.
Thank you for standing with us as we work to honor our shared history and build a meaningful future.
