Carol Ann Mills

Carol Ann Mills, 78 of Gonzales passed away Saturday, July 3, 2021. She was born March 3, 1943 in Lubbock, Texas to Marvin and Madelyn Blackburn.

Shortly after Carol was born her family moved to Spain where her father was stationed and she spent the majority of her childhood there. In her teens, her family moved to New York where Carol went on to attend college in Utica and achieved her Bachelor’s in Nursing.

She then moved her family to Gonzales, Texas and settled on a small piece of family land. She continued her nursing career as Director of Nurses at the Cartwheel Lodge in Gonzales, Texas. She later went on to serve in Operation Desert Storm as a Major in the 114th Medical EVAC Unit in the Army. Once returning home, she took a position with Victoria College where she taught nursing students for the remainder of her nursing career.

Carol had tremendous passion for animals; often rescuing horses, dogs, and cats. She enjoyed spending time with her grandkids and family and living out in the country on the family farm.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Marvin and Madelyn Blackburn. Carol leaves behind her children: Michael Kenneth Mills, II and wife, Michelle, of Smiley, TX, Christine Ann Michalec of Gonzales, TX, and Clifford H. Mills and his wife, Linda, of Naples, FL; grandchildren: Cerena Michalec, Charlie Michalec, Michaela Mills, Michael Mills, III, Matthew Mills, and Joseph Fagundes; great-grandchildren: Ryann Michalec, Ari White, and Ben White; sisters: Elsie Blackburn of Virginia and Janet Moore of New York; and half-brother: Jimmy Blackburn of Virginia.

Visitation will be held at Buffington Funeral Home in Gonzales on Sunday, July 11, 2021 from 5 to 6 p.m. with rosary to begin at 6 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, July 12, 2021 at 2 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church in Gonzales with burial to follow in the Gonzales Memorial Cemetery.
