Come & run (or walk) it at Independence Park

The Come & Take it 5K Run/Walk will be held Saturday, Oct. 1, at 8 a.m. in Gonzales Independence Park, located off Water Street (US 183 South).

Gonzales is one of the most historic towns in Texas, so come and celebrate “Come & Take It” with the Come & Take It Celebration (celebrating the firing of the first shot of the Texas revolution on Oct. 2, 1835) and join in the run/walk event.

2022 is the 187-year anniversary of the first shot of Texas independence, so come get your exercise. Registration and packet pickup will be on race day, at 7 a.m., with the 5k walk and 5k run both beginning at 8 a.m.

Fees to join the event are $25 per runner/walker and registration, along with entry fees, will be open until 7:45 a.m. on race day.

Only participants registered on or before Sept. 27 will receive a race t-shirt, with no shirts available after the Sept. 27 registration date.

Awards will be given in the categories of 5k run: overall male/female; top 3 male/female in age groups 1-12, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-99 years of age. The categories for 5k walk are: top male/female in age groups: 1-99 years of age.
