Come & Take It memorial golf tournament draws near

The Gonzales High School Class of 1964 and Community Foundation of the Gonzales Area (CFGA), a 501(c)(3) organization, join forces each year to hold a golf tournament which honors the county’s seven “Fallen but not Forgotten” Vietnam veterans killed in action. Proceeds from the event provide for Tommy D. Chenault Scholarship opportunities to local students.

Last year’s third annual tournament was held on Oct. 2, 2021, and was quite a success. Through the support of the many area sponsors — including the Gonzales Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture, the classmates in the Class of 1964 and the tournament players, who generously gave money and supplies to make the event enjoyable and a financial success — the organization was able to award substantial scholarships to Shiner St. Paul and the Gonzales ROTC program.

The GHS Class of 1964 and CFGA look forward to holding the fourth annual tournament on Oct. 1, 2022, at the Gonzales Independence Golf Course. The memorial tournament honoring the county’s “Fallen but not Forgotten” has grown from its humble beginnings due to the tremendous support of the GHS Class of 1964, the people of Gonzales, and the surrounding area.

The tournament is now an integral part of the Come and Take It Celebration. Organizers look forward to your continued support for this worthwhile and successful event.
