Edwards Association to host annual MLK march

The Edwards Association invites the community of Gonzales to the annual Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) march and celebration, to be held Monday, Jan. 16, 2023, Edwards Association president David B. Tucy announced.

The march will begin at 10 a.m. on Independence Square. It will proceed north on St Paul Street; east on St. Andrew Street. There will be a brief stop at Providence Missionary Baptist (oldest African American church in the city of Gonzales) and Henson Chapel Methodist churches on St Andrew and Church streets for a bell ringing ceremony by Henson Chapel MC, and remarks from Pastor Gary L. Clack (Providence MBC).

The march will end at the Edwards gym on Kleine and Fly streets. There will be a program that reflects on the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with guest speakers and essays from Gonzales ISD students. Afterwards, a community love luncheon will be served.
