Early voting ended Tuesday, April 29, for the municipal and school board elections, but Election Day voting will be held from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, May 3 at three locations within Gonzales County.
City of Gonzales and Gonzales ISD voters will cast ballots at the Randle Rather Building, 427 St. George St., Gonzales.
On the ballot for the city is mayor with incumbent Steve Sucher taking on Isaac Anzaldua. District 4 voters are deciding the fate of Councilmember Ronda Miller on a recall petition. In the school races, District 1 voters will decide between incumbent Gloria Torres and Ale Hernandez, while District 2 voters will choose between incumbent Justin Schwausch and Rocky Gallegos.
Nixon and Smiley voters will go to the Nixon Community Center, 302 E Central St., Nixon. Nixon City Council candidates are incumbents Patsy Scherrer and Patricia Dingler, Jessica Garcia and TJ Lopez. Smiley City Council candidates are incumbents Daniel Benavides and Diane Moreno, other candidates running are Wayne Dauer, Michael Mills, Michelle Mills, Michaela Mills and Elisa Douglas. Incumbent Lori Price has dropped out, citing an impending move.
Waelder voters will go to Waelder City Hall, 300 US Hwy 90 W, Waelder. They will choose between Acting Mayor Mike Harris and Diana C. Olmos to finish out the one-year unexpired term of the late Roy Tovar. On the council, they will choose between incumbents Martha Melchor, Rachel Vargas Martinez and Marie Ibarra Almaraz, Dora Martinez, Margie Zapata, Curtis Hadnot Jr. and Adam Ibarra.
