Florentina Blanco, 66, of Gonzales, passed away Friday, August 28, 2026. Florentina was born October 16, 1959, in Santa Cruz, San Luis Potosí, Mexico, to Blas Gallegos and Nicolas Cardenas. She married Hector Blanco on June 26, 1992, in Gonzales.
To know Florentina was to know a woman who found joy in the simple, familiar moments of everyday life. Eyes glued to the television, she waited with anticipation for the latest developments in her favorite novelas. Reclined in her bed, with a pen between her fingers, she could often be found searching for the matching word in her puzzle book. With her phone pressed to her ear, she would happily—and often loudly—visit with relatives from beyond la frontera.
Throughout her youth, Florentina worked various jobs before eventually returning to a familiar place, where she worked alongside her sister at Matamoros Taco Hut for more than twenty years. It became much more than simply a place of employment. It was a place filled with years of work, family, friendships, and memories—and it was on those very same floors that she married Hector.
When vacation time came, Florentina always tried her best to visit family in the various states across Mexico. She looked forward to every phone call and every visit, patiently waiting for a knock at the door from both immediate and distant family members. Her kitchen table would be decorated with dishes, and her arms were always ready to receive the loved ones who came to visit.
Sundays were often spent cleaning, but even household chores could become an opportunity for joy. Between one chore and the next, Florentina would invite her sons to dance with her while listening to the ballads of her adolescence. These simple moments became precious memories that her family will carry with them forever.
Florentina was a woman whose heart belonged to her family. She was the greatest mom a child could ever ask for, the sweetest tía a niece or nephew could ever want, the kindest sister a sibling could ever be gifted, and the best wife a husband could ever find. Her love was found in the meals she prepared, the phone calls she cherished, the visits she anticipated, the dances she shared, and the open arms with which she welcomed those she loved.
Florentina is survived by her loving family: husband, Hector Blanco, Sr., her sons, Hector Blas Blanco, Jr. and Vanessa Cano, and Carlos Ontiveros; her sisters, Juana Matamoros and her husband, Natividad, Irma Ontiveros, Maricruz Ontiveros, and Socorro Gallegos; and her brothers, Armando Gallegos, Jorge Gallegos, and Arturo Gallegos.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Ruben Ontiveros.
