Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 30, 2010 at Delhomme Funeral Home in Broussard, La., for Fred Max Schurig, Sr., 84, who passed away on May 27, 2010 at 2:34 p.m. at his residence.

Interment took place in Sacred Heart Cemetary in Broussard.

Mr. Schurig Sr., a resident of Broussard, was born on May 9, 1926 to the late Max Emil Schurig and Alma Emma Windwehen of Gonzales.

Fred served in the United States Army during World War II. He graduated from Texas A&M and worked in the oil and gas industry for over 35 years.

He is survived by one daughter, Kathryn Schurig Delahoussaye and husband, Alvin of Broussard; one son Fred M. Schurig, Jr. and wife Marie of Memphis, Tenn., five grandchildren, Alicia Delahoussaye Prejean and husband Chris, Kelly Delahoussaye, Thomas Delahoussaye, Chelsea Schurig, and Randy Schurig; three great-grandchildren, Matthew Prejean, Madison Prejean and Joseph Prejean.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Martha A. Shepherd Schurig, one sister Elsie Carleton and four brothers, Max, Willie, Wally and his twin Joe Schurig.
