The Gonzales Healthcare Systems Foundation finally held its “2020” 5F Gala at JB Wells Expo Center on Saturday, Sept. 17, some two and a half years after it was initially postponed due to the COVID pandemic.

The theme of the evening was “Sea the Difference” and featured two-person cooking teams, or duos, making specialty foods in competition with each other for those in attendance to taste. The turnout was fantastic, hospital officials said.

“After two and a half years of postponing due to the COVID pandemic, we were finally able to gather together, to raise money for our foundation and to enjoy each other's company,” said Holly Danz, marketing director for Gonzales Healthcare Systems. “It was truly a wonderful evening with great food prepared by our duos, plenty of laughter and camaraderie, and some Boozy Boardwalk wins!”

The team of Gene Kridler and Darren Schauer won first place overall with their jalapeno crawfish chowder, while Best of Show went to the “Kennedy’s Kissers” duo of Marilyn Monroe and Jackie Kennedy, better known as Daisy Scheske Freeman and Britney Jones Caka.

Storey Jewelers and Guadalupe Valley Electric Cooperative (GVEC) provided donations for prize drawings, with Cindy Powers winning a Vahan bracelet and Sandra Martinez taking home a new Kawasaki Mule. Other winners included Kathleen Ramirez with an 18-inch strand of pearls, Tony Powers with a Jobe kneeboard and Brianna Kay with a Razor EcoSmart Scooter.

“We thank you all for your continued support of the Gonzales Healthcare Systems Foundation! We look forward to seeing you at our next event!” Danz said.
