Gonzales County schools learn about agriculture

Posted

The Gonzales County Farm Bureau hosted its Ag Day Wednesday, Oct. 11 and welcomed fourth graders from Gonzales, Nixon-Smiley, and Waelder.

Students were able to see different farm animals, learn about electrical safety & seatbelt safety, see some large Ag equipment, watch some baby chicks hatch, observe how rainwater affects our soil, and got to try their hand at roping.

This was the Farm Bureau’s first event since 2019, so once again seeing children learn about agriculture and being able to host this was very exciting. Special thanks to GVEC, TxDOT, Dapper Dairy, Gonzales County SW.CD and Dwight Sexton, Gonzales County Ag Extension Agent.

The Nixon-Smiley FFA was also out to help with the event as well as some of the Farm Bureau’s board members, who also donated their time and expertise. GCFB looks forward to doing this again next year.
