Unemployment in Gonzales County increased to 3.3 percent in December 2024, down 0.4 percent from the 3.7 percent recorded for November 2024, with the county continuing to place the third-highest of all seven counties which comprise the Golden Crescent Workforce Development Area, according to state Labor Market Information (LMI) figures released by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC).
For the entire Golden Crescent Workforce Development Area, the unemployment rate for December 2024 was at 3.4 percent, lower than the state average of 3.7 percent. This represented a total of 3,138 residents in Gonzales, Calhoun, DeWitt, Goliad, Jackson, Lavaca and Victoria counties seeking employment out of a total workforce of 92,698 people. This represents a decrease of 428 people in the labor force and 507 fewer individuals claiming unemployment.
The counties reporting in lower than Gonzales County are Calhoun and Lavaca counties, with the lowest unemployment rate at 2.9 percent, followed by DeWitt County at 3.1 percent, and Jackson County following at 3.2 percent. Next are Gonzales County at 3.3 percent while rounding out are Goliad County and Victoria County tied in the highest position at 3.7 percent.
For December 2024, there were 312 individuals in Gonzales County seeking employment out of a workforce of 9,444 with 9,132 reported as employed. In November 2024, there were 356 people seeking work in Gonzales County out of an employment force of 9,502 for a total unemployment rate of 3.7 percent. There were 9,146 people reported as employed.
In December 2023, Gonzales County had an unemployment rate of 3.0 percent as there were 280 individuals in Gonzales County seeking employment out of a workforce of 9,224 with 8,944 reported as employed.
