Unemployment in Gonzales County increased to 3.7 percent in January 2025, up 0.3 percent from the 3.4 percent recorded for December 2024, with the county coming in as the third-lowest of all seven counties which comprise the Golden Crescent Workforce Development Area, according to state Labor Market Information (LMI) figures released by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC).
For the entire Golden Crescent Workforce Development Area, the unemployment rate for January 2025 was at 3.9 percent, lower than the state average of 4.1 percent. This represented a total of 3,483 residents in Gonzales, Calhoun, DeWitt, Goliad, Jackson, Lavaca and Victoria counties seeking employment out of a total workforce of 88,843 people. This represents an increase of 228 people in the labor force and 422 more individuals claiming unemployment.
The counties reporting in lower than Gonzales County are Lavaca County, which had a region-low 3.2 percent unemployment rate, followed by Calhoun County at 3.4 percent. Next was Gonzales County at 3.7 percent, followed by Jackson and Victoria counties at 4.1 percent each, Goliad County at 4.3 percent and DeWitt County coming in at the highest rate with 4.9 percent — up from 4.2 percent.
For January 2025, there were 324 individuals in Gonzales County seeking employment out of a workforce of 8,792 with 8,468 reported as employed. In December 2024, there were 295 people seeking work in Gonzales County out of an employment force of 8,712 for a total unemployment rate of 3.4 percent. There were 8,417 people reported as employed.
In January 2024, Gonzales County had an unemployment rate of 3.8 percent as there were 328 individuals in Gonzales County seeking employment out of a workforce of 8,649 with 8,321 reported as employed.
