Grills, games & glory: Jr Main Street Summer Throwdown heats up May 31

The Gonzales Jr Main Street Board is set to launch into summer with their inaugural Summer Throwdown on Saturday, May 31, and it's bringing the sizzle and the toss to Independence Square in downtown Gonzales.

This high-energy celebration of summer fun will feature two crowd-favorite competitions: a Community Cornhole Tournament and a BBQ Cook-Off — plus live music, food trucks, inflatables, water slides, a petting zoo, and more!
Whether you're a grill master or a cornhole champ in the making, this free, family-friendly block party offers something for everyone.

BBQ COOK-OFF: WHO'S THE KING OF THE GRILL?

Fire up the pit and show the town who's boss of the barbecue. With chicken, pork chop, and steak categories on the table, competitors will vie for cash prizes and custom trophies.

BBQ Cook-Off Entry Fee: $20 per category or $50 for all three
Check-In: 3:00 PM | Cooking Begins: 3:30 PM
Turn-In Times: Steak – 5:00 PM | Pork Chop – 5:30 PM | Chicken – 6:00 PM
Judging: Blind format, scored on taste, tenderness, and appearance

CORNHOLE TOURNAMENT: SLING FOR THE BLING

Put your toss to the test in the Singles Division Cornhole Tournament, where local legends will compete for ultimate bragging rights and custom belt buckle prizes for first and second place.

Entry Fee: FREE
Check-In: By 4:30 PM | Tournament Starts: 5:00 PM
Format: Single elimination, standard scoring, first to 21 wins
