Here's the latest on scheduled high school sports this week

Here is a look at this week's games in Gonzales County High School sports:

Apaches Basketball

The Gonzales boys host Fredericksburg tonight at 6 p.m. Fredericksbuirg is 11-1, while the Apaches are 4-5. The Friday, Jan. 8 game with Lehman has been cancelled. The boys open district Tuesday, Dec. 12 hosting La Vernia. 

Lady Apaches Basketball

The Gonzales High School girls basketball team defeated Aransas Pass, 53-46, on the road on Dec. 30 in the team’s final game before a nine-day layoff leading up to its 4A District 27 opener at home against Cuero on Friday, Jan. 8 at 7:30 p.m.

On Tuesday, Jan. 12, the girls continue district play with a 7:30 p.m. game at La Vernia.

Mustangs Basketball

Nixon-Smiley's boys are on the road today for a 6:15 p.m. district game at Great Hearts Mountain View. The boys then host Marion on Friday, Jan. 8 at 7:30 p.m.

Lady Mustangs Basketball

The Lady Mustangs (2-1, 5-5) travel to Cole for a 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6 in a make-up game from a postponement in December. The game tipped off after The Inquirer’s press deadline.

The team then travels to Marion for a 6:30 p.m. game on Friday, Jan. 8.

Waelder Wildcats

The boys and girls had today's games against McDade cancelled. 

The girls will resume district play on Saturday, Jan. 9 with a 1 p.m. game at Runge. Then, on Tuesday, Jan. 12, the girls (0-2, 0-5) host Austwell at 6 p.m.

The boys (1-1, 3-7) travel to Austwell for a 7 p.m. tipoff on Tuesday, Jan. 12.

Apache Powerlifting

Gonzales High School’s boys and girls powerlifting teams open their respective campaigns Saturday, Jan. 9 with a competition at Kyle Lehman High School.

Apaches Soccer

The Gonzales girls team opens the season Friday, Jan. 8 at home versus Smithville.

The boys open tonight at 7 p.m. on the road in Pleasanton. the team them heads to the Alamo Heights Tournament Thursday through Saturday, Jan. 7-9.
