Historic Homes Garden Tour set for Mother’s Day weekend

Moms help us grow … and teach us to give.

This year’s Gonzales Historic Homes Garden Tour brings those sentiments home in tangible ways this upcoming Mother’s Day Weekend. The events include an extraordinary Summer Evening Gala on Saturday, May 10 at Belle Oaks with heavy hors d’oevres, champagne and Gabe Gallardo’s acoustic guitar, and the sweet summer scents of honeysuckle and gardenia.

From 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the gardens at the stately Belle Oaks, you can treat your Mom and yourself in glory of gardening and magic of Mother Day. The catering is done by volunteer hands to support the first annual Historic Homes grant that will be awarded to a well-deserving historic homeowner in need of little assistance with a qualifying project. Grants details are still being worked out for application.

On Sunday afternoon, after a fabulous brunch in one the local establishments, the garden tour will start at 2 p.m. and run until 6 p.m. The gardeners have been working diligently growing their gardens under some tough circumstances … very little rain and some unseasonably warm weather. But, the gardeners have it under control just like just like Moms would have done, and they are more than willing to visit about their gardening journey.
