Joe Pat Nance, age 88, passed away on August 29, 2026.
Joe Pat was born on January 2, 1938, to Theron and Corinne Nance. On August 30, 1958, he was united in marriage to the love of his life and college sweetheart, Patricia "Patti" (Beuershausen) Nance. Together, they shared 68 wonderful years of marriage centered on faith, family, and community leadership.
A man of deep faith, Joe Pat dedicated many years of service to the Presbyterian Church (PCUSA), Mission Presbytery, Synod of the Sun. He served as a Lay Pastor before ultimately leading Pilgrim Presbyterian Church, offering spiritual guidance, wisdom, and comfort to his congregation. He was a Church Business Administrator in the Methodist Church and worked with many local churches. He was involved with Kairos Prison Ministry and Walk to Emmaus groups. Professionally, his career in accounting with various oil companies took him on international adventures, including work in Peru, Ecuador, and Trinidad & Tobago. He was a member of the Army Reserves for a number of years.
Beyond his ministry and career, Joe Pat was a passionate fixture in local athletics. He spent years on the field as a Little League baseball umpire and high school football referee, as well as serving as a long-time statistician for the Gregory-Portland Wildcats football team. An avid fan of golf, baseball, football, and track, his absolute favorite pastime was cheering from the stands as his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren competed in their various sports. He was a Rotary member and received 2 Paul Harris Fellows during that time.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia; his children, Kevin Nance (Kathy), Brian Nance (Donna), and Katrina Nance; his grandchildren, Bobby Nance (Dacey), Jonathon Nance (Heather), Brittani Mogford (Justin), Cody Nance, Travis Nance, Matthew Corley, and Stephanie Ewald (Matt); and his great-grandchildren, Doc and Deacon Mogford, Evan and Reagan Nance, Weston and Addison Nance, and Henry and Pierce Ewald; as well as BIL Barry(Marilyn) Beuershausen. He was preceded in death by his parents, Theron and Corinne Nance and in-laws Fritz and Clara Beuershausen.
Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 22, 2026 at the Gonzales Presbyterian Church.
