Gonzales County Justice Court Precinct 1 is proud to recognize its dedicated clerks during Court Employee Appreciation Week. It is a time to honor those who play an essential role in upholding justice by processing court filings through serving their neighbors and the general public.
“Court clerks are the backbone of our justice system and ensure our courts run smoothly and efficiently. I am grateful for their hard work, professionalism, and dedication to public service. Justice Courts have been considered the people’s court since Texas formed as a state,” stated Deidra D. Voigt, Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace. “I encourage the community to join me in recognizing and thanking all court clerks for their invaluable contributions that each make in serving the public through their thoughtfulness and helpful guidance processing each case.
“On many occasions I receive positive feedback to their professionalism and courtesies to the sometimes-complicated justice process. My office strives to streamline the process for both the plaintiff and defendant alike since many times this is the only time a person has a court setting,” Voigt added.
Justice court clerks process Class C Misdemeanors, debt claims, small claims and evictions up to $20,000. Also, administrative hearings regarding animals, drivers license suspension, animal cruelty, stolen property and seized weapons dispositions and much more.
The court’s jurisdiction in Texas codes include Transportation, Health and Safety, Family, Alcohol and Tobacco, Parks and Wildlife, Government, Occupation, Property, Civil Practices and Remedy, Business and Commerce, Rules of Evidence, Tax, Criminal Procedure, Penal Code and others.
“I am very proud to work alongside and have been blessed to have clerks whose experience totals more than 51 years: Rebecca Boedeker, 33 years; Amy Ramirez, 11 years; and Vivian Gallegos, 7 years, respectively. My clerks are cross-trained to handle criminal and civil issues and receive 16 hours each of training annually overseen by the Texas Supreme Court in regards to Texas’ laws and rule changes. We had 2,037 cases filed in our court alone this year and we have already processed 1,354 cases in 2024,” Voigt added.
