Lack of GISD ballot in Caldwell County due to 'oversight'

Gonzales ISD met Tuesday, Oct. 24, with Caldwell County elections administrators to put together a plan for the Gonzales ISD bond election, which had not been placed on the ballot with the Nov. 7 constitutional amendment election due to an oversight.

Voters were left wondering how to cast their ballots after early voting began Monday, Oct. 23, as Caldwell County officials did not have ballots with GISD's bond issue on them.

“We have met with the elections administrators from Caldwell County today and gotten everything going so those voters (in Caldwell County) will have the ability to vote in our bond election,” said Veronica Johannsen, GISD Chief of Communications, Marketing, Safety and Security.

“It will be a separate election and Caldwell County has a plan to inform people when they go to vote that there will also be a bond election for GISD.”
Johannsen said Caldwell County will also put together a plan to call back any voters who cast ballots Monday, Oct. 23 and Tuesday, Oct. 24 in the constitutional amendment election and are still eligible to vote on the GISD bond issue.

On Wednesday, Johannsen reported that, according to Caldwell County Elections Administrator Davonte Coe, “They will start testing soon and the goal will be to have voters start voting on Monday, October 30, 2023."

Early voting locations in Caldwell County are:

• Scott Annex, 1403 Blackjack St., Lockhart.

• Luling Civic Center, 333 E. Austin St., Luling.

Hours for early voting are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 25-27; 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 28; noon to 6 p.m. Oct. 29; Oct. 30-Nov. 3 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
