Lady Apaches FC roll pass JFK in district opener

The Gonzales Lady Apaches FC open up district on the road against the San Antonio JFK Lady Rockets Friday, Jan. 24.

The Lady Apaches defense shut out the Lady Rockets with a, 3-0, win and kicking off district with a 1-0 record.

Last season the Lady Apaches open up open up district play against JFK but ended in a 1-1 tie, and head soccer coach Shantael Trimm was glad to have a different outcome this season.

“It makes me feel like our team is strong. They work together. It took us a minute to get some goals on the board, but in the end, we did it. We put them away. It's our first time in two years where we started off our season with a winning game.” Trimm said.

The Lady Apaches have a bigger district this season with additions from San Antonio Cole and Luling and Trimm said it was important to get the first district win off the bat to gain momentum moving forward.

“It's definitely started us off that way builds their confidence, and it gives them something to aspire to continue.” Trimm said.

The Lady Apaches faced off against Luling Tuesday, Jan. 28 and have faced them pre-district.

“We played them pre-district, so we actually played them last week. And so we kind of know what we're walking into. They have a they have a good, strong team this year. There was a lot of improvement from last year. And so it's definitely not a give me game, so we're ready. We've been working hard.” Trimm said.

The Lady Apaches will hit the road Friday, Jan. 31 for a match against the La Vernia Lady Bears.

The La Vernia game kicks off at 7 p.m.
