The League of Women Voters of South Central Texas will celebrate Women's History Month by honoring exceptional local women at its third annual Women Making History event, which will take place on Sunday, March 9, at 3 p.m. at Historic Casino Hall, 254 N. Jefferson Street, La Grange.

Eight outstanding women were selected from dozens of community nominations to receive recognition in categories including courage, determination, heroism, heritage, initiative, steadfastness, and vision. The selection committee noted that all nominees demonstrated remarkable contributions to the South Central Texas community.

The celebration will also feature presentations from three area high school students, who will share their award-winning essays and poetry about influential women from Texas history. These presentations are part of the League's second annual Student Writing Showcase, which aims to inspire young people to explore women's contributions to our South Central Texas community.

The public is warmly invited to attend this inspiring celebration. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased in advance on the League's website (lwvsouthcentraltx.org) or at the door. Light refreshments will be served.

The League of Women of South Central Texas serves voters in five counties in South Central Texas, with county-specific teams that organize League activities within each county: Colorado, DeWitt, Fayette, Gonzales and Lavaca. The League of Women Voters is nonpartisan,
neither supporting nor opposing candidates or political parties at any level of government,
but always working on vital issues of concern to members and the public.
