Lucille Jones Harvey

Lucille Jones Harvey departed this life September 8, 2023, in the privacy of her family. She was born in May 20,1935 to the late Elmer Jones Sr. and Cornelia Lindsay Jones in Gonzales, Texas. Mrs. Harvey was the fourth oldest siblings of the Late Elmer Jones and Cornelia Jones.  She met her first husband Roland Walker, Sr. in high school Gonzales. She later married and to this union four children were born: Jacqueline Walker, Jereline Walker, Roland Walker Jr. Sylvia Slater. She later married Mitchell Harvey.

She was a graduate of Edwards high school in Gonzales Tx. While in school she was a track star and Basketball star, many championships were won by the 1953-55 team at Edwards high school.

Her work experience started when she was employed at the Carl’s store downtown San Antonio Tx.

She worked as an auditor for many years and later moved to the State Chest Hospital for 32 years as a nurse where she retired. She was active member of the St. Peter Baptist Church in San Antonio where her brother Rev. Hugh Jones was the pastor until she relocated to Houston Texas to live with her daughter.

She was gifted with a beautiful singing voice, was an active member of the choir and worked in the church wherever she was needed. Mrs. Harvey was often described as a calm, peaceful, organized generous, and dependable and friendly person who loved the Lord. She often thanked the Lord for

Her children and grandchildren who took excellent care of her until the end all were helpful.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Jereline Walker, five brothers, James Jones, Walter Jones, Rev. Hugh Jones, Harold Jones, and Edward Jones.

She leaves to cherish her memory one son Roland Walker jr. Houston, Tx two daughters Jacqueline Walker San Antonio, Tx Sylvia Slater of Eagle Lake, Tx nine grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren one, sister Ella Harris (George) of Gonzales, Tx, Elmer Jones Jr. (Dotson) of Austin Tx. Her dear friend Mary Mallory, Dora Espinoza, School mates, all her friends’ nieces and nephews from San Antonio Tx, Luling Tx, Houston Tx, San Antonio Tx and all over Texas.

She lived a full blessed life. Her greatest blessing was her children and grandchildren and great grandchildren. Special thanks to Melanie, Sylvia, Charles, Liz, Catherine and Ronnie Pittman.

She loved them all and fondly spoke of them. She fought a good fight; she kept the faith, and we know there is a crown waiting for her. 2 Timothy 4:7 NKJV
