Main Street brings back Rum Run on Oct. 21

Only one event in Gonzales begs the question: Why “run” when you can “rum?”

It’s the annual Gonzales Main Street Rum Run, and it’s back by popular demand on Saturday, Oct. 21, as a way to raise glasses and money to help revitalize and support Gonzales Main Street.

The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Check-in starts at 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., where runners — or should be say “rummers” — will pick up their T-shirt and rum cup in Independence Square. They have the choice of starting the “run” at 11 a.m. or enjoying brunch at one of downtown’s restaurants first, because, after all, “the most important meal is the one you eat before doing a little day drinking.”

How does it work? You “run” or “walk” to participating merchants, enjoying some liquid libations at each stop along the way. There is no set time limit, so you can travel downtown at your own pace (please, not at your own stagger; drink responsibly!) and you can enjoy all that Gonzales has to offer.

The “run” officially ends at 4 p.m., but don’t let that discourage you from checking out specials that downtown restaurants and hot spots will continue to offer throughout the rest of the day.

Tickets are $25 per person and include a commemorative T-shirt. Sign up at https://www.eventeny.com/events/rumrun2023-7636/.

The Gonzales Main Street program aims to create an experience-rich environment while preserving the beautiful historic features of the city’s downtown. Main Street’s vision is for Gonzales to become a destination for those seeking a unique, friendly small-town atmosphere and keeping our role in Texas history alive.
