A man found dead at a Gonzales motel Thursday, July 11, was the victim of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, Gonzales police reported.

Lt. Jason Montoya said at about 3:56 p.m. Thursday, July 11, GPD officers responded to the Westwood Inn, 2669 Water St., regarding a possible deceased individual. Upon their arrival, the officers entered the room where hotel employees had advised they had seen what appeared to be the lifeless body of an adult male.

Officers discovered a dead male individual later identified as Aaron Villalobos, a 21-year-old male from Cameron County. Gonzales County EMS and Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Deidra D. Voigt were called to the scene and the latter pronounced Villalobos’ time of death.

The victim was taken to the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy, where a preliminary investigation indicated Villalobos suffered a self-inflicted fatal gunshot wound. No foul play is suspected.

Officers contacted the next of kin to give them notification of Villalobos’ death prior to notifying the Inquirer of the incident. Villalobos had been staying in Gonzales at the hotel while working at a construction site in Luling.
