Mi Lupita’s named Main Street Business of the Month — a Gonzales favorite for 19 years

If you’ve spent any time in Gonzales, chances are you’ve already eaten at Mi Lupita’s — maybe more than once. And if you haven’t, well, it’s time to discover why this family-run gem has just been named Main Street Business of the Month.

Located in the same cozy spot on St. Joseph Street since opening in 2006, Mi Lupita’s has spent the last 19 years doing what it does best: serving up authentic Mexican food with a generous helping of heart. With 14 dedicated employees, the restaurant isn’t just a business — it’s a daily celebration of food, family, and community.

“We opened Mi Lupita’s with love, and every day since then has been about welcoming people in like they’re walking into our own home,” says the Rodriguez family, who still own and operate the restaurant today. “Our favorite part of being in Gonzales is the people — hands down. This town has been good to us, and we try to give that back in every plate we serve.”

The numbers speak for themselves. In 2024, Mi Lupita’s swept the Gonzales Inquirer People’s Choice Awards, taking home titles for Best Restaurant, Best Breakfast Tacos, and even Best Waitress (shoutout to the beloved Lupe). Customers return again and again for signature dishes like their fajitas, enchiladas, and those famous breakfast tacos that locals swear are the best way to start any day.

Open seven days a week, Mi Lupita’s offers more than just great food. They have space available for private events, making them a go-to for birthdays, baby showers, and everything in between.

It’s that sense of family that defines the Mi Lupita’s experience. “It’s not just a family-owned restaurant — we treat everyone like family,” says Sebastian Rodriguez. “This is our home, and we want everyone who walks in the door to feel like they’re part of it.”

As they celebrate nearly two decades of service, being named Main Street Business of the Month is just another well-earned milestone. But for the crew at Mi Lupita’s, the real reward has always been the smiling faces they serve — and they’re already looking forward to the next decade of serving Gonzales.
