The city of Nixon voted unanimously to award a construction contract for the Community Development Block Grant Mitigation sewer line improvements to J.M. Pipeline LLC of Burnet for $1,119,582 at their Monday, July 21 regular meeting.
The funds to pay for the improvements — which include replacing existing sanitary sewer trunk main and sewer lines, reconnecting services and removing and replacing manholes — will come from $1,433,500 in Regional Mitigation Grant program funding from the Texas General Land Office.
The council also voted to adopt a revised City of Nixon Community Center Rental Agreement which includes a change to include two free rentals to IRS 501(c)(3) nonprofits per year. After that, the regular price of $450 per day will apply.
Council members had approved an agreement in June that includes a new rental rate, regardless of whether a renter is in town, in county or out of county, of $1,250 per weekend or $450 per weekend day (Friday, Saturday or Sunday) with an upcharge of $50 more (total $500) if alcohol is being served. Weekday rental rate is $200 per day. The deposit is a flat $250 fee.
The agreement also includes adding an extra hour for cleanup with events on Friday and Saturday nights having an ending time of 11:59 p.m. If cleanup extends past 2 a.m. on those nights, there is an additional $75 per hour charge applied.
If alcohol is being served, then security must be provided through an outside agreement with the Nixon Police Department with a charge of $50 per hour per officer supplied.
After an executive session, the council directed City Attorney Eddie Escobar draft an agreement between the city and the Nixon Lions Club to lease the property adjacent to the east side of City Hall for museum development with no cost for the lease and a term ending in December 2026.
