Nixon police, along with members of the Texas Attorney General’s Child Exploitation Task Force, arrested a popular DJ without incident on multiple charges of possession of child pornography on Wednesday, April 19, Nixon Police Lt. Bobby Caldwell said.

Richard Salinas, 42, a Nixon resident who spins records under the name DJ $Rich$, was taken into custody at 10 a.m. Wednesday as law enforcement conducted a search warrant at a residence in the 300 block of West Central Avenue in Nixon, Caldwell told the Inquirer.

“This was the result of approximately nine months of investigation from the Nixon Police Department,’ Caldwell said. “In the past four months, we were joined by the Texas Attorney General's Office. Several items were recovered.”

Salinas is a registered sex offender and is listed among the 69 known registered sex offenders who are obligated to report to the Gonzales County Sheriff’s Office.

He was taken to the Gonzales County Jail and was charged with three counts of possession of child pornography. He remains in jail in lieu of a combined $225,000 bond, or $75,000 on each count.

Caldwell said the case remains under investigation and could not say whether any more arrests may be imminent.

“That's gonna depend on whether or not we get IP addresses and/or phone numbers that are actually linked to names instead of, you know, deceased persons, which is what we find sometimes in these cases,” Caldwell said.

“People will use fake email addresses and set up social media accounts, such as Kik and Discord, in order to pass along this type of stuff so that if they do get caught, that device they're using doesn't come back to them. However, sometimes we are able to locate them by IP address or cell phone number, or an email address, such as in this case.”
