Nixon Lions Club, Camp House to host first-ever fall concert, BBQ

Texas rockabilly and country icons Two Tons of Steel will headline the first-ever Nixon Lions Club Fall Concert & BBQ will be held Saturday, Oct. 12, at The Camp House, 926 FM 1681, Nixon.

Tickets will be from $50 to $150 each and gates will open at 5 p.m. for this event, which will also feature Lacy Brinson, Alex Coba and Kristen Foreman. The event will be held rain or shine. Only 150 tickets will be sold. A full brisket dinner is included with the ticket price.

There will also be a silent auction featuring old Nixon memorabilia, including yearbooks, cookbooks and more. The event is BYOB and there will be $20 tickets for a drawing with only 300 tickets sold. The old Nixon Theater sign will also be lit for the first time in 50 years!

Two Tons of Steel, based out of San Antonio, has been an institution at Gruene Hall and has performed several times at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. Band members include lead vocalist/rhythm guitarist Kevin Geil, drummer Rich Alcorta, bass player J.D. Larish and lead guitarist Stephen James.

For 28 years they have had “Two Ton Tuesday Live from Gruene Hall,” a summer-long event which has drawn more than 275,000 fans since it first began in 1995. The band was filmed during a “Two Ton Tuesday” gig for the IMAX film, "Texas: The Big Picture," which can be seen daily at the IMAX Theatre in the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum in Austin.

Brinson, a 2024 nominee for Best Female Country Vocalist at the San Antonio Country & Rock Music Awards for the second consecutive year, was born and raised in Live Oak, Florida. Her album, Gratitude, was released in 2019 and is available on all streaming platforms. In February 2024, Lacy began releasing singles from her previously unreleased 2019 project, "Bits & Pieces."

Coba is an Americana, folk and alternative country singer-songwriter from Houston. He has performed at House of Blues in Houston, the Corpus Christi Songwriters Festival and more. Foreman is a country artist based out of Nashville whose latest single is “I Don’t Cry in My Cowboy Hat.”
