Come & Take It Golf tournament rapidly approaching

Posted

The Gonzales High School Class of 1964 and the Community Foundation of the Gonzales Area (CFGA), a 501(c)(3) organization, are quickly moving forward with their plans for the sixth annual golf tournament to be held on Oct. 5.

The event honors those Vietnam veterans who are “Fallen but not Forgotten” from the Gonzales area: Capt. Tommy Chenault, Cpl.. L. Schautteet, SP4 D. Tomas, Lance Cpl. C. Bolden, Cpl. J. Tuch, Cpl. B. Baker, and Sgt. R. Asher. Proceeds from this event provide academic and vocational scholarships for local high school students as well as area students from the two Shiner high schools and Waelder High School via the Tommy Chenault and Kenny McGinty 2024 Scholarship.

Last year’s tournament was quite a success due to the many area sponsors. Because of those who generously gave their support — including the Gonzales Inquirer, the local Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture, the GHS Class of 1964, the tournament participants, and behind-the-scenes workers — the CFGA was able to award 12 vocational and academic scholarships.

Winners of the Tommy Chenault Scholarships were Nathan Timmons, Emily Stamport, and Stephany Pokluda from Shiner St. Paul; Anna Ramos and Julio Yanez, from Waelder HS; Cale Shows, Emma Davis, and Clayton Baker from Shiner HS; and Eva Frost, Dakota DuBose, Morgan Boothe, and Parker Storey from Gonzales HS.

Organizers and supporters of the annual golf tournament appreciate your continued help in making this year’s event even more worthwhile, more fun, and more successful than ever.
