A Nixon man was arrested on an outstanding warrant for felony theft early Thursday, Feb. 20, due to the successful execution of a narcotics search warrant by the Gonzales County Sheriff’s Office with assistance by the Nixon Police Department.
The 5 a.m. operation took place at a residence in the 500 block of East 4th Street in Nixon and followed an approximate month-long investigation conducted by the Sheriff's Office's Narcotics Investigators, which led to the identification of this residence as the focal point of illicit drug activity.
As a result of the investigation, deputies were able to arrest Monseis Mendiola Jr., 46, on an outstanding warrant for theft of property >=$30K<$150K, a third degree felony. Mendiola had been the subject of a “Warrant Wednesday” Facebook post by the GCSO on Jan. 22 due to his failure to appear on the outstanding charges. He also faces pending charges for manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance.
“Sheriff's Office personnel worked diligently in coordination with local law enforcement and community partners to ensure the safety of the public while conducting the search,” Sheriff Keith Schmidt said in a statement. “Narcotics investigators continue to prioritize efforts to combat illegal drug activity and protect the community of Gonzales County.”
