Nixon-Smiley Community Fest returning for second year

The Nixon-Smiley Community Festival will return for its second year Saturday, Sept. 28, with 12 hours of fun to celebrate the citizens and businesses of the community.

The free event is scheduled to be held from noon to midnight at the Nixon Community Center, 302 E. Central, Nixon and is being sponsored by the Nixon Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture. It will feature food, fun, music and community spirit for what should be an unforgettable experience in downtown Nixon.

Among those currently scheduled to perform, according to a Facebook event page for the festival, are Los Double RR’z from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Sonic Soul from 9 p.m. to midnight.

Food vendors will be on site offering tacos, barbecue and more and there will be a beer garden hosted by LoJax Bar. Adults must be 21 and older to purchase a wristband for the beer garden.

There will be local arts and crafts vendors and small business and non-profit organization booths as well as an auction and drawing for prizes.

Funds raised from events like Nixon-Smiley Community Fest are used by the Nixon Chamber for marketing and promotion; to organize and host more community events to bring foot traffic to Nixon; for downtown revitalization projects; for workshops and training; to create business grants and support; and for future community investments.
