Noon Lions Club hosts annual CTI Cook-off

The Gonzales Noon Lions Club will hold their annual Come and Take It Celebration T-bone, Chili and Beans Cook-off on Sunday, Oct. 8, in downtown Gonzales in the 400 block of Saint George and the 600 block of Saint Paul streets.

Entry fees are T-bone $60 (steak will be provided); Chili $25; Beans $25; Appetizer $15; Kids Pork Chop $10 (children under 13 only competing); and Cocktail $25.
Prizes will be awarded to the top two in five of the categories (T-Bone, Chili, Beans, Pork Chop and Cocktail), while there will also be awards for appetizers, showmanship and T-bone presentation.

First place in T-Bone wins $250, followed by $100 for second. Top prize in Chili, Cocktails and Beans wins $100 each, with second receiving $35. Kids Pork Chop will award $60 for first place and $25 for second place. The awards for Showmanship and Appetizers is $50 each.

Set up begins at 6 a.m. and ends at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 8. There will be barricades downtown and contestants may drive into the area at the intersection of Saint George and Saint Paul streets. All vehicles will have to be out of the area by 10 a.m. and may come back into the area at 4 p.m.

Team registration and check-in is from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the corner of Saint Paul and Saint George streets. All teams must check in and pick up appropriate containers and tickets.

The turn-in location will be announced during registration. Turn-in time for appetizers is 11 a.m. and for cocktails is 11:30 a.m. with T-Bone to be assigned beginning at noon. Chili turn-in time is 1 p.m., with Beans at 2 p.m. and Kids Pork Chop at 3 p.m.

Showmanship judging will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Showmanship judges will remain anonymous. Cook area can be decorated in any family friendly theme your team chooses. Showmanship will be judged on theme, costume and audience appeal.

Keep music to a reasonable volume; you may be asked to turn it down if it interferes with other celebration activities. No business promotion may take place without a paid sponsorship.
