A pre-trial hearing for a woman accused of stealing thousands of dollars in merchandise from a local jewelry store has been reset for Sept. 27.

Christina Martinez Melchor, 45, was indicted by a Gonzales County grand jury on two charges of felony theft of property greater than or equal to $2,500 but less than $30,000. She was formally arrested on May 23.

On July 20, 2022, a report was made to the Gonzales Police Department by the owner of Storey Jewelers in Gonzales regarding theft by a former employee, later identified as Melchor. An investigation was conducted regarding the complaint and turned over to the Gonzales County Attorney’s Office, according to a statement by GPD.

The case was then presented to a grand jury, which found probable cause to issue an indictment against Melchor. A pre-trial hearing had originally been scheduled for Aug. 14 before 2nd 25th District Judge Jessica R. Crawford.
