Ribbon cutting Nov. 21 for new God’s Storehouse in Nixon

God’s Storehouse Food Bank in Nixon will hold a ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, at their new location, 401 N. Franklin, with cake, cookies and punch to be served after the ceremony.

Volunteers have asked the community to join them “in fellowship and gratitude for all that has made this addition to our community possible.”

The new facility opened for business on Oct. 10, after volunteers worked tirelessly to get the building ready to go. It is directly across the street from the old God’s Storehouse building that was at the rear of the Nixon Methodist Church campus. Much of the building was made possible due to a grant donation by GVEC earlier this year.

God’s Storehouse is a nondenominational nonprofit food pantry and resale shop serving the Nixon community. They are associated with the Golden Crescent Food Bank in Victoria and are open every Thursday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Representatives from the non-profit organization say they “aspire to make our client families feel welcomed, valued and for their experience be one of respect and dignity as we serve them in their struggle with food insecurity.”
