Rivas to receive Inspire Community Leadership Award

Gonzales pediatrician Dr. Humberto J. Rivas has been awarded an Inspire Community Leadership award by the Braination Foundation.

Rivas, who has been the medical provider for children at Legacy Ranch for the past nine years, will receive the award during a luncheon to be held at Legacy Ranch Inspire Academy, 13326 US 183, at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 9.

The event will honor Rivas and other Inspire award recipients while also kicking off a Legacy Ranch School Playground Campaign.

The Braination Foundation Community Leadership Award recognizes individuals who have championed or led specific initiatives or efforts and whose ideas and actions have inspired and helped improve the quality of life for the communities they serve.

In addition to serving the children at Legacy Ranch, Rivas currently serves as vice chief of staff at Gonzales Memorial Hospital. He has been president of the Gonzales County Medical Society; a member of the Texas Medical Association (TMA) House of Delegates, where he repesents Gonzales County; a member of the Executive and Credentialing Committee at Gonzales Memorial Hospital and a member of the boards of directors for both Gonzales County Health Foundation (GCHF) and the Gonzales County Housing Authority.

Rivas also maintains admitting privileges at Dell’s Children’s Hospital, Seton and St. David’s Hospitals in Austin.

Rivas’ practice, Docs 4 Kids Pediatrics, is located in the Sievers Medical Clinic at 1110 N. Sarah DeWitt Drive. It has been operating in Gonzales since 2006, when he moved to the community with his family. A fully committed pediatric specialist, Rivas has been practicing medicine for 30 years.

After studying medicine at Escuela Autonomma de Ciencias Medicas in Costa Rica, Rivas completed his internship and pediatric residency at Rutgers University Hospital Children's Hospital of New Jersey in 1992.
