Robert Ynclan Scholarship fundraiser announced

The Sheriff Robert Ynclan Memorial Scholarship Fund is hosting its third annual fundraiser on Saturday, March 23, 2024, and tickets are on sale now.

“For $15, area residents can enjoy a dinner plate of a pork steak, German potatoes and green beans,” says Scholarship Fund President Cynthia Ynclan.

Meals can be picked up on a drive thru arrangement from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at 1611 Seydler St., Gonzales, on that day.

Cynthia Ynclan said, “We have countless volunteers who prepare and serve the food. Also, many others have made donations which makes this effort possible such as the loan of BBQ pits for grilling and the printing of the tickets. We truly are grateful for all those who are lending a hand.”

Robert Ynclan was elected Gonzales County sheriff in 2020, but passed away at age 63 on Sept. 3, 2021, after a lengthy battle with COVID-19.

“The scholarship fund was established in 2022 to honor Robert and his sincere affection for young people, especially for those who strived to better themselves through education,” Cynthia Ynclan said. “We hope everyone turns out to help support us in this great program in Robert’s name.”

The proceeds will be distributed this spring to college-bound Gonzales County students heading off to college in the fall. In the last two years scholarships were awarded to 10 students from Gonzales High School, Nixon-Smiley ISD, Waelder ISD and Grace Academy. Cynthia Ynclan says 1,000 tickets were sold last year, and the board hopes to sell that same number this year.

Tickets can be requested from Memorial Scholarship Fund board members and supporters, through their Facebook page, and include:

• Nora Matias, Vice President;
