The Republican Women of Yoakum Area invites the public to attend the annual Awards Luncheon at the Yoakum Community Center, 105 Huck St., at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov 8.

More than 120 senior students and their teachers from three counties; Lavaca, DeWitt, and Gonzales counties, from the public, private, and home schools are competing in the Constitution Essay Competition. Both the schools and students names are anonymous to the judges.

Students must write a three-page, double-spaced essay on a Constitutional question composed by the Education Committee.

First Place Essay winner receives $1,300, 2nd Place $800, 3rd Place $400, and the teacher who has the most students in the final round of Judging receives $300.

A free lunch is served to students and teachers with a freewill donation appreciated from the public.

This year, the awards will be presented by Mark Longoria, district director for Congressman Michael Cloud of the Victoria Regional Office.

As the district director, Longoria works alongside Congressman Cloud serving the citizens of District 27. Mark also serves as president of the Victoria County Hurricane Harvey Recovery Group and he is the Marine's "Toys for Tots" coordinator, which provides Christmas toys for less fortunate children.

Mark also has worked for more than 11 years with young people at Faith Family Church as Youth Outreach Pastor. Mark is married to Shannon Longoria and they have three children.

Mark will deliver information to the graduating students and audience from Congressman Cloud, and  he will speak on Constitutional Foundations, Principles, Capitalism, and Protections by the Supreme Law of the Land, which lead to opportunities and protections for citizens.
