The City of Smiley has ordered a general election for the public for Saturday, May 6. The election will be held at the Smiley Volunteer Fire Department located at 208 N. Farm-to-Market Road 108.

Amy Lee SJ Akers will be taking over as the new Smiley City Council attorney, as reported from the March 15 meeting. Akers will be appointed at the next Smiley City Council meeting in April.

“I’ve been doing municipal work for more than ten years, I graduated from law school in 2012,” Akers said. “I only help small cities.”

Akers also serves on the board of directors for the Pedernales Electric Cooperative as the director for District 7.

The City of Smiley is also providing seven additional radios to the Smiley City Marshal's department, costing $8,000 a piece. Three radios will be transferred from the Marshal’s inventory to the Smiley Volunteer Fire Department.
