Members of Nations Christian Fellowship are mourning the loss of one of their pastoral leaders, Russell Ivey, who was killed in a single-vehicle accident Saturday, Feb. 15, in southern Guadalupe County.
Ivey, 50, was on the pastoral team at Nations Christian Fellowship in Smiley and also worked as a Blue Bell route sales representative. He was driving an ice cream truck along a curve on Farm-to-Market Road 467 near Sweethome Road in Guadalupe County when Texas Department of Public Safety officials say the truck struck a guardrail and overturned.
A 1993 graduate of Nixon-Smiley High School, Ivey and his wife, Tammy, attended Jerry Savelle Ministry International (JSMI) to work towards the completion of their pastoral licenses. He was a member of the Nixon Area Ministerial Alliance.
A memorial fund has been set up at Third Coast Bank in Nixon. Checks can be made out directly to Tammy Ivey or parties interested in donating can call or go by the bank and ask for the Memorial Fund for Russell Ivey or Tammy Ivey.
