The Gonzales County Commissioners voted in May 2023 to proclaim June 1 as Sheriff Robert Ynclan Day in Gonzales County which coincides with the late sheriff’s birthday.
Sheriff Ynclan began serving Gonzales County after being elected in November 2020. Unfortunately, he passed away from COVID-19 in September 2021.
For the first time, a celebration to recognize this special day is scheduled for Sunday, June 1, 2025, in Independence Park at the Rotary site from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The first 250 attendees will enjoy a hamburger, chips, drink, street corn, pickle slushy refresher and a snow cone for free. In addition, there will be three bounce houses and music.
Cynthia Ynclan says that all those who loved and admired Robert are very grateful that County Judge Pat Davis declared June 1 as Robert Ynclan Day. “This year I decided to personally host a fun-filled event where residents can honor Robert,” she added.
2025 scholarhip winners announced
“A scholarship fund was established in 2022 to honor Robert Ynclan and his belief in the value of education,” says Cynthia Ynclan. The Sheriff Robert Ynclan Memorial Scholarship Fund has raised funds and awarded scholarships every year since its inception to local college bound seniors.
Eight seniors will each receive a $1,000 scholarship this year, and Cynthia Ynclan adds that “this year’s awards are made possible because of all those who turned out at our fundraiser in March at Independence Park, and we are very grateful for their support. And, without our loyal volunteers who sold tickets and helped on that day, these scholarships would not have been feasible.”
