Gonzales resident Sutton Albert may be 17 years old, but he is already an accomplished rodeo cowboy not only in the state of Texas, but recognized nationwide for his talent.
Albert commenced his rodeo career at a young age, primarily focusing on roping. Within the last two years, he transitioned to other end of the arena in roughstock, specifically bronc riding. Notably, he emerged as the 2023-2024 Texas High School Rodeo Region champion and competed at the Texas High School State Finals, where he finished tied for sixth overall.
Furthermore, he secured the year-end saddle bronc champion title for Lester Meier Rodeo Company, an open pro series and holds membership in the Junior Roughstock Association. This led to a dual qualification and earned him a spot to compete in the Junior National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas.
The top competitors from the United States, Canada, and Australia converged Dec. 5-14 at the Junior World Finals to vie for a world championship title. Sutton was one of three Texas qualifiers in his division, which was comprised of 34 contenders from throughout the nation.
Each competitor at the world finals participates in two rounds, and the top 10 advance to a short round. Sutton returned to Gonzales ranked sixth in the world and was the only Texas cowboy in his division to cover his bronc in all three rounds. Sutton is a home schooled senior and plans to attend college continuing his career in the sport of rodeo.
